Finnish e-commerce approaches 10 billion
Finns spent 9.4 bn euros in e-commerce in 2010. 17% of the spenditure constituted of purchases from non-Finnish businesses.
The total 9.4 bn represents 7-8% of corresponding retail. The published figure is very large, as it covers more sectors than have been traditionally considered as e-commerce. Most popular categories in Finnish e-commerce are travel, electronics, vehicles, gambling and clothing.
Increasing international competition creates new pressures for Finnish e-commerce businesses. Now is the time to focus one's business. Good products are no longer enough for success, says Director Teemu Ylikoski of ASML. In the new business era, companies need to focus on their customers, target, and become customer centric.

In the beginning of 2010, a nationwide e-commerce statistics collection was launched.
The driving forces behind this extensive research are The Federation of Finnish Commerce, The Finnish Direct Marketing Association (Finnish DMA) and TNS Gallup.
The Finnish e-commerce -statistics include the purchase of different products and services both from domestic and foreign online stores. The statistics are based on consumer interviews, carried out four times a year. In each round, Finnish consumers are asked what products or services they have bought online during the latest three months. The questionnaire includes 30 product groups that are divided into 69 sub-groups.
The Finnish e-commerce 2010 -statistics is based on 9.322 consumer interviews. The results have also been verified via other sources, for example industry data and other relevant studies. The figures include VAT.
Trade between consumers is important for some product categories, and in some cases consumers have difficulties in distinguishing C-to-C from B-to-C trading. This is particularly the case in following product categories: electronics, children's products, books, furniture and cars.
